| "Wings"
(1927) First On-Screen Gay Kiss. This touching scene
from the Oscar-winning film featuring one of the first,
if not the earliest surviving, on-screen same-sex
kisses in film history. Jack Powell (Charles "Buddy"
Rogers) and David Armstrong (Richard Arlen)...
gets
a better smack on the lips from Jack than Mary (Clara
Bow) does in the whole movie in the now famous death
scene cited in The Celluloid Closet as evidence of
a hidden gay subtext.
Imagine
being a gay boy in the dark movie theater in 1927...
it's not much of a kiss, but you would know this a
gay love story.
